The course

The course can accommodate a maximum of 24 participants.

Loose clothing should be worn (think: going to the gym).

The format for the session is:

  • Presentation from the trainer on key elements, basics, verbal control, discussion points (45m)

  • Some simple physical partner work (45m)

  • Q&A time and final group discussion (30m)

  • 2 x short comfort breaks for refreshment

What you’ll learn

The course syllabus contains the following elements:

  • Outline of definitions, including reference to, and brief overview of, the DfE Use of Reasonable Force documentation.

  • Basics of self defence (awareness) and key de-escalation techniques.

  • Safe threat stances

  • Knives (discussion only)

  • Response to a number of basic grabs

  • Learning the mechanics and theory of falling safely

  • Learning to get back up to a safe stance
