The course

The course can accommodate a maximum of 18 participants.

Loose, comfortable clothing should be worn (think: going to the gym).

The format for the session is:

  • Presentation from the trainer on key elements, basics, verbal control, historical example discussion points (45m)

  • Some simple physical partner work (45m)

  • Q&A time and final group discussion (15m)

  • Wrap up & certification

Recommended; 2 x short comfort breaks for refreshment.

What you’ll learn

The course syllabus contains the following elements:

  • Outline of definitions, including reference to industry white papers (DfE Use of Reasonable Force documentation etc.)

  • Basics of key de-escalation techniques (awareness) & self defence foundational overview.

  • Safe non-confrontational threat stances.

  • Knives (discussion only)

  • Response to a number of basic physical grabs.

  • Learning the mechanics and theory of falling safely / getting back up to a non-confrontational safe stance.

  • Establishing safe intervention technique strategy.
